A new report from the Gaza Media Office has found that Israel has dropped more than 65,000 tons of bombs on Gaza since Oct. 7.
According to the report, “occupation aircraft,” referring to bombers of the Israeli Air Force, dropped over 45,000 missiles and bombs – some weighing as much as 2,000 pounds – since the start of the current conflict between Israel and Hamas.
In its report, the Gaza Media Office referred to Israel’s aerial bombardment campaign as part of the country’s “comprehensive genocidal war on the Gaza Strip” that deliberately targeted “entire residential areas.” (Related: Palestinian Christians in Gaza fear Israel’s ongoing bombing campaigns will lead to their EXTINCTION.)
“The weight of the explosives dropped by the army on the Gaza Strip exceeded 65,000 tons, which is more than the weight and power of three nuclear bombs like those dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima,” said the media office.
The Gaza Media Office reports that about two-thirds of the bombs and missiles that Israel drops on Gaza are “unguided and imprecise, commonly known as dumb bombs.”
The office pointed out that the use of such bombs indicates that Israel is deliberately and indiscriminately targeting and killing in an unjustified manner Gazan civilians. This is “a clear and explicit violation of international law and various international conventions.”
The office has even documented Israel using at least nine internationally banned bombs and missiles against Gazans. These include American-supplied “bunker-busting bombs” like the BLU-113, BLU-109, SDBS, and the laser-guided bunker buster GBU-28 “to destroy infrastructure.”
Israel has also allegedly used white phosphorous bombs and other kinds of smart and unguided bombs. The bombs caused “mass killings and injuries within seconds, in addition to causing permanent damage to the injured, such as deformities and disabilities, along with the environmental risks resulting from the release of toxic radiation.”
It should be noted that Israel is easily capable of carrying out targeted strikes against Hamas militants in Gaza that greatly minimize civilian casualties if it wanted to, using targeted munitions like guided bombs and missiles. Israel even has technologically advanced laser-guided missile systems that can take out specific apartment units in buildings while keeping the foundations of the building intact.
This ability to make very precise strikes against enemy units is evident because, on Tuesday, Jan. 2, Israel conducted one such targeted strike when it assassinated Saleh al-Arouri in Beirut, Lebanon.
Before his death, al-Arouri served as Hamas’s deputy chairman of its political wing. He is also known as a co-founder of Hamas’ military wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades.
Al-Arouri’s assassination in Beirut was carried out with a drone strike that killed six other people – three other Hamas militants and three Lebanese Islamist militia members. No civilians were killed in the strike.
Israeli government advisor Mark Regev even noted in an interview, without admitting that Israel is responsible for the attack, that it was “a surgical strike against the Hamas leadership.”
